“A Walk In The Chi” is a coming of age tale about young teenagers battling morals, family structure, ego, and peer pressure. A relatable story of everyday coincidence, struggles to do the right thing, and real life moments that happen all too often.

Summer time in Chicago can be unforgiving. Everyday, kids go outside to play and socialize, not knowing what they may come across and what it could lead to. During one of their walks around their Southside neighborhood, Che Matters and his best friend, J Jax, stumble upon a gun and some weed stashed on the roof of a school they used to attend. Pressed for material things and the desire to be popular, the boys make a choice and try to capitalize off their findings and use it to their advantage as they had seen others do. Feeling like they hit the lottery, they go out and experience life, doing simple things they have never done like spending money, flirting with girls, being chased and fighting. With their new found contraband and attitudes of invincibility, will the boys get swallowed up by the environment in which they live while facing the consequences of the choices they have made?

Some people never change and for Georgia Mae and Henry Foster, that’s a good thing. Married for over 50 years, Georgia Mae and Grandpa Henry are well aware of the daily trials and tribulations that plague the community and are steadfast in reminding their grandsons of the facts of life. Their grandsons, Marquis and Shaun recently moved from the Southside of Chicago to the suburbs with their parents, but they miss the daily action that the city life brings. Any chance they get such as holidays, extended weekends, or breaks from school, they go back to the block that their grandparents live on to hang out with their friends. They spend this particular spring break chauffeuring, eating, and shopping with their grandmother while trying to convince her to let them attend a party at the local skating rink a few blocks away. The quick vacation back to the block gives them all that they are looking for; as once again they meet up with familiar friends but soon after, shots ring out and the boys are left to deal with the realization of the situation at hand.

Ten years ago, no one would’ve thought that LT would be in the position that he was in today. The misguided juvenile gangster from the housing projects on King Drive Street was only thought of as a menace, so people presumed he would soon end up in one of two places: between concrete walls and steel doors, or in a pine box six feet under. Despite the cynics, LT was defying the odds stacked against him. With a lot of luck and countless prayers, not only was he alive to see twenty-three years of age, but he also wasn’t incarcerated. In fact, he was positioning himself to secure loads of legit money. But with the upcoming Fourth of July festivities in the hood and the culmination of a master plan, the question remains; will he be able to secure the bag, or will he ultimately succumb to the perilous road traveled thus far?
